Getting paid to watch ads sounds like a scam.
We've done the digging ourselves and tested out this side hustle. The verdict? It's legit, but it's a very slow process to earn any meaningful amount of money. As long as your expectations are reasonable, this is an easy way to earn a few extra dollars each month.
But how exactly can you get paid to watch ads, and how much can you expect to make?
Here's How It Works
There are a variety of money-making apps and websites that will pay you money for watching online content. Some of them also offer other ways to earn cash by taking paid online surveys, completing tasks, and redeeming coupons.
It's not much of a time investment, and you can get paid to watch ads in short bursts of time, like during your lunch break or while the kids are napping. Another trick to earning more is to play the videos on your phone or tablet and let them run in the background while you do your regular tasks. That way you're not spending hours glued to the screen.
How much money can you make watching ads?
How much you make depends on how much time you want to invest, but it's reasonable to expect anywhere from $5-20 per month in payouts and rewards. Earnings vary with the platform you use, so make sure you check out a few of the ideas below.
Some of the apps and websites from our list even offer bonus categories that can increase your payout. While the payout method varies, most offer the option to redeem your rewards for gift cards or via PayPal.
6 Top-Rated Apps for Getting Paid to Watch Ads
Here are seven ways you can get paid to watch ads.
1. InboxDollars
If you're looking for a quick and easy way to make money watching videos and ads, check out InboxDollars. You can earn rewards by watching a variety of short videos daily. You need to earn at least $30 before you get paid. You'll receive your cash payout in the form of PayPal cash, ePayment (merchant gift cards, prepaid Visa card, or a charity donation), or a check in the mail. It can take between 10 and 16 business days for checks to arrive.

In addition to watching videos, you can earn SBs by answering surveys, using coupons, shopping online via the cash-back portal, and more. Cash out your points for gift cards or PayPal cash.
You can redeem as few as 160 SBs for a $1 Amazon gift card. If you prefer cash, the payout threshold for PayPal is $5 or 500 points.

It's a quick and simple way to get extra money back on your purchases, with ads often lasting fewer than 30 seconds. And don't forget that if you're not currently using Ibotta, you can get up to $20 in bonuses when you create an account and redeem qualifying offers within 30 days of signing up.

While you do watch ads for money, your payout is not dependent on how much you interact with those ads. Rather, earnings are based on Slidejoy's proprietary algorithm. Keep an eye on your account to see the balance grow throughout the day.

Viewing Payed Advertising Sites Real Estate
Nielsen is most known as the system used for TV show ratings. The company measures the number of people watching television shows and collects data that's then sold to television and cable networks, advertisers, and the media.
Every U.S. household with a TV is eligible to be selected as a Nielsen Family. Participation is by invitation only, so you can't sign up to join. But make sure to keep an eye on your mailbox for your invite.
If you do get an invitation and you accept, you'll receive compensation for being part of the program. It's not much — typically around $200 per year — but it's still a way to get paid for watching TV.

Keep the Big Picture in Mind
Watching ads isn't a replacement for your full-time job – not even close – but it is a way to earn money online to pay for a splurge.
Is Paid Advertising Viewing System Legit
In the long run, there are better ways to invest your time. Learn a new skill, try out one of the higher-paying gig apps, work extra hours at your day job, etc. You'll make way more money that way and probably feel more fulfilled, too.
That said, there is nothing wrong with spending a few minutes of downtime here and there on this. Every little bit adds up!
Of all of the ways to make money online, getting paid to click sounds like the simplest.
But it's also quite vague– click what, and why do I get paid?
Well I can assure you that there are legitimate ways to get paid to click, though the methods between the sites may vary a little.

In this article, I'll show you how to avoid scams and get straight to the legit sites.
What is a PTC site?
PTC, also known as Paid To Click, is kind of like participating in an advertisement.
You may be familiar with the similar concept of Pay Per Click, which is a form of advertisement (but not the type we'll be participating in here.)
So Pay Per Click is a form of advertisement.
Imagine a banner ad on a website. That may be a PPC, as in, the webmaster is paid every time someone clicks on it. So when you do PTC work, you'll be clicking on those, and being paid a portion of the ad revenue.
Want a Free $5 Bonus?
Try Swagbucks, the famous rewards program that pays you for watching videos, taking surveys, shopping and more.
There are websites that pay people to participate in these advertisements. So you're doing PTC on their PPC ads.
Sound complicated?
It really isn't!
The big picture is that everybody is making money because you are clicking on ads.
Since these sites are such an easy way to make money, there are more and more of them popping up all the time.
It's arguably the easiest way to get paid, after all, so it makes sense to see more of them around.
How much can I get Paid to Click?
Like with a lot of the really easy ways to make money online, getting paid to click isn't quite profitable enough to do full-time. While I do think that the money you can make from getting paid to click is worth your time, it isn't something that is a substitute for a day job.
The way that you get the most money from getting paid to click is by getting fast at it.
In general, you can expect to be paid about $0.01 per click. So that's 100 clicks for a dollar. It might sound like little, but once you get quicker, it's not so bad.
Making a favorable rate from PTC isn't impossible.
However, most sites will cap you on how many you can do per-day, because they don't have an unlimited supply of them to give you. So you'll either be making a set amount from a site, or you'll need to sign up for multiple.
If you see sites advertising really high per-click rates, like 50¢ or $1, it's definitely a scam. I'll talk more about scams in a second, so keep that in mind.
So, for these reasons, it would be almost impossible to making a living from PTC alone, but that doesn't mean that you can't make some extra money with it.
And if you're particularly inclined to it, that might be enough money to make it worth your while. Especially when it comes to money, small gains add up to big ones.
Referrals
Like many other sites, PTC sites offer referrals where you'll be rewarded for directing people to the site.
Since these sites work by making small gains at a time, you'll definitely want to take advantage of these referrals, which can greatly increase your earnings.
With a lot of the money-making sites out there, especially PTC sites, referrals are by far the best way to make money.
Now different sites offer different incentives for referrals. Some offer lump-sum bonuses (like $3 or something) and other offer long-term bonuses, like a fraction of your referrals' earnings. Some sites may offer both.

Now different sites offer different incentives for referrals. Some offer lump-sum bonuses (like $3 or something) and other offer long-term bonuses, like a fraction of your referrals' earnings. Some sites may offer both.
Even further than that, some referral sites work on a multi-layered system, where you'll even get benefits from your referrals' referrals. This is great if you have some kind of way to get your referral link out there. And it's easy to see how the earning adds up:
If you get 15% of each referrals' earnings, and then half of their referrals' referrals earnings, and then half of those people's referrals' earnings, then now you're sitting on top of a large income stream (even if it looks complicated written down, it's very simple!) This means that if you introduce a lot of active users to the site, you can get some really great passive income coming in.
Getting your link out there to even a few people is better than nothing, since these sites heavily favor people who refer. If you're a member of a relevant forum or anything similar, it's highly recommended to share your referral link.
Beware of Scams!
The more skeptical readers here will perhaps still be a bit wary.
A lot of money making methods on the internet have the reputation of being too good to be true, because a lot of them are.
Many people have experienced the harsh reality of being scammed on the internet, and that hurts the appeal of these sites a bit.
Like any other sites out there, you must beware of PTC scam sites.
These will often look just like a legitimate site, though some deeper knowledge about the site will show that it is indeed a scam (usually, it means they'll deny payout requests or do random account deletions.)
Now as I said before, beware any site that is offering to give amazing rates per-click. If you could be making $20+ an hour from whatever rate they're offering, it is definitely a scam. That's a shame, of course, because we'd all love it to be true. But that's exactly what makes it an enticing scam.
Don't be fooled!
Because of this situation, it's better to stick with PTC sites that have a trusted reputation.
Sometimes, it's a good idea to give unknown sites a try, but that's not the case when it comes to PTC or most money-making sites. Look up reviews of a site if you're not sure if you can trust it.
To save you the trouble of deciphering which sites are safe and which sites are not, I've got a list of some trustworthy PTC sites here that I can confirm are safe and legitimate.
These are some of the most well-known sites, and for good reason. It's important that a PTC site have a good reputation, to distinguish it from scammers.
Top 10 PTC Sites
1. ClixSense
I would probably say that ClixSense is the most well-known PTC site, and they also have some of the best rates.
If you're only going to sign up with a few, this should definitely be on your list.
- Rates: $0.001 to $0.02 for each ad clicked.
- Referral: 10% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
- Payout: You can pay out once you've got $8. They pay out to AlertPay or PayPal like most of the others, but also offer to pay out to Liberty Reserve as well. Will be sent within 5 days of requesting.
2. GPTPlanet
This is among the older PTC sites out there.
- Rate: $0.001-$0.01 per ad clicked.
- Referral: 10% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
- Payout: AlertPay or PayPal, and the minimum is $1. They cash out instantly.
3. CashNhits
CashNhits pays considerably lower than some of the other sites on this list, but they are well-trusted and guaranteed to pay out.
Viewing Payed Advertising Sites Really
- Rate: $0.0005 to $0.002 per ad clicked.
- Referral: 10% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
- Payout: To PayPal or Alertpay, with a minimum of $1. Sent instantly.
4. BuxP
This is a site that bills itself as a revenue sharing network. They offer PTC tasks.
- Rate: $0.001 to $0.005
- Referrals: 50% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
- Payout: These guys pay out to AlertPay or PayPal. Unlike many others on this list, they have a fairly high payout minimum of $7.99. However, it is sent instantly.
5. Clicks4Cents
Now Clicks4Cents seems to offer some conflicting information.
I used them a while back, and the rates were around $0.001 to $0.015, but their front page now says $0.05 per click.
I also thought that their payout minimum is $1, but the front page says $50.
Some reports on the internet say that the once legit Clicks4Cents site was bought and turned into a scam site, so proceed at your own risk.
6. PaidToClick
These guys definitely nailed it with their name; they definitely do pay to click. Other than their highly relevant name, they function much the same as other PTC sites.
- Rates: $0.001 to $0.01 per ad clicked.
- Referral: You make 5% to 10% of your referral's ad earnings.
- Payout: Sent automatically once a month via PayPal.
7. EasyHits4u
These guys are tried-and-true, but know that they have perhaps the lowest pay of any site on this list. This is partially because they pay per-chunk of views (per 1000.)
- Rates: $0.03 per 1000 clicks/views.
- Referral: 10% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
- Payout: Will send instantly to PayPal or AlertPay once you have $3.
8. Incentria – Update: Site closed down
Another middle-of-the-road PTC site, Incentria makes a good supplementary site if you are out of tasks on some of the others. They have slightly lower rates to the average.
- Rates: $0.001 to $0.005 per ad clicked.
- Referral: 10% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
- Payout: Much like Clicksia, sent somewhere between instantly and 7 days within request. Can be paid to PayPal or to Alert Pay.
9. Clicksia – Update: Site closed down
First on the list is Clicksia. They're pretty straightforward.
Rate: Between $0.001 to $0.005 per ad clicked.
Referrals: 10% to 100% of your referral's earnings.
Payout: To Alert pay or PayPal, with a low minimum threshold of $1. They might pay out anywhere from 7 days to instantly, so it's pretty varied.
10. Ayuwage
Along with ClixSense, I would say this is another must-try of the options on this list. One of the best things about Ayuwage is that you can do it for as long as you want– they have no maximum on the amount of ads that you can click.
- Rates: Between $0.001 and $0.015 per ad clicked.
- Payout: Paid to Alert Pay, PayPal, or Liberty Reserve. Payout minimum is $1 and is sent within 5 days of requesting.
Thoughts in closing?
Of all the PTC sites I looked into, these 10 seemed to be the most trustworthy (with the possible exception of Clicks4Cents.)
What Is Viewing Payed Advertising
If you're going to try a PTC site, I heavily recommend choosing one from this list.
Also, please keep in mind that the amount of money you can make on these sites is very limited. At best you may make a $10-$20 a month. So don't get your hopes too high.
Like most methods of making money online, getting paid to click requires some dedication and consistency. Don't give up before you make it to your payout minimum!
And if you can, definitely refer a few friends or internet acquaintances.
